Welcome to Concert Hall
[ Konzerthaus and Akademietheater ]

The Wiener Konzerthaus is one of the most important and artistically advanced musical institutions in Europe. It has been an essential part of Vienna's musical life for more than 85 years. Each season - from October to June - around 700 performances featuring more than 3,000 different compositions are held in the Konzerthaus' four concert halls.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral [Stephansdom], Vienna, AustriaWelcome to St. Stephen’s Cathedral
[ Stephansdom ]

Gothic cathedral in the city center was the site of Mozart's funeral in 1791. Its lace-stone spire has become Vienna's signature. The cathedral, devastated during World War II, was so essential to the Austrian identity that all Bundeslander (Regional States) contributed to its reconstruction. At one time, no less than three Norman churches stood here, of which merely the giant portal and the ‘Heidenturme’ (Heathen Towers) remain, which were integrated into the new cathedral. The Stephansdom is the most important gothic edifice in Austria. You can visit the Catacombs, where the entrails of the Habsburgs are kept, during one of the guided tours.

Welcome to Schonbrunn Palace
[ Schloss Schonbrunn ]

The magnificent Baroque Schonbrunn Palace with grandly formal gardens was built for the Habsburgs between 1696 and 1713. The complex has been a summer residence for such personages as Maria Theresa and Napoleon. Kaiser Franz Josef I was born and died here. His ‘office’ (kept as he left it in 1916) is a touching reminder of his spartan life. In contrast, other rooms are filled with truly spectacular imperial elegance.

St Charles’ Church [Karlskirche], Vienna, AustriaWelcome to St. Charles’ Church
[ Karlskirche ]

Dominating the Karlsplatz is one of Vienna's greatest buildings, the Karlskirche, built in the early 18th century and dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo. At first glance, the church seems like a fantastic vision, one blink and you half expect the building to vanish. For before you is a giant Baroque church framed by enormous freestanding columns, mates to Rome's famous Trajan's Column. The main interior of the church utilizes only the area under the dome and is surprisingly conventional given the unorthodox facade.

Haydn museum, Vienna, AustriaWelcome to Haydn museum

This is where Franz Josef Haydn conceived and wrote his magnificent later oratorios ‘The Season’ and ‘The Creation’. He lived in this house from 1797 until his death in 1809. Haydn gave lessons to Beethoven here. A room in this house, which is a branch of the Historical Museum of Vienna, honors Johannes Brahms.

Welcome to Sigmund Freud Museum

Dr. Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, lived and worked in this house for almost half a century (1891 to 1938). His former office and private apartment are now, thanks to his daughter Anna, a museum. Here Freud treated patients and completed works like ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’. A permanent exhibition displays, since 1971, autographs, document, photos and some of Freud's personal possessions. The waiting room has been restored with the original furniture and a video room shows private films made by the Freud family in the 1930s. The museum also has an archive, lecture room and library with more than 30,000 volumes covering various aspects of psychoanalytic theory, therapy and history. It is open to readers every Tuesday between 10 am and 6 pm.

City Hall [Rathaus], Vienna, AustriaWelcome to City Hall
[ Rathaus ]

The old town hall was originally gothic, but received a baroque facade around 1700. The complex houses the governor of the state of Vienna, the Assembly and the City Council. On the top of the tower sits the ‘Iron Knight of City Hall’ (Eiserner Rathausmann), which is one of the symbols of Vienna. In the interior courtyard one can admire the Andromeda Fountain from 1741, a creation by the baroque master Georg Raphael Donner. The Salvator Chapel, with its magnificent Renaissance portal from 1360 (Salvatorgasse) was integrated into the complex.

Welcome to Schwechat airport

Vienna Schwechat Airport is served by international flights to/from all major destinations. It is located 18km (11 miles) southeast of the city. There are several possible modes of transport to the city centre: daily rail service, except Sunday, about every hour; bus service also links the airport and the city terminal building (Hilton Hotel) near Bahnhof-Wien-Mitte; Express bus service (Vienna Airport Lines), shuttle services and taxis.

Imperial Palace, Vienna, AustriaWelcome to Imperial Palace
[ Hofburg ]

This enormous complex is a bold symbol of the power that the Habsburg monarch once held in Europe. The 13th century Schweizerhof  (Swiss Courtyard) is the heart of the Hofburg. Of the complex’s medieval core, only the Burgkapelle (Imperial Chapel), where reservations are required two months in advance to attend the Sunday Mass with the Vienna Boys Choir, remains.
